Bowen Physiotherapy is a private physiotherapy practice based in Bowen, Queensland — and we’re proud to call this community home.
Established in 2019 by principal physiotherapist Alexander Pyke, Bowen Physiotherapy was built on a simple but powerful belief: that people living in regional Queensland deserve access to the same quality of physiotherapy care as those in major cities. Not a compromise. The real thing.
When Alex opened the doors, many people said there wouldn’t be enough demand. They were wrong. Within the first few years, waitlists stretched to seven months. Today we’re a growing team serving a diverse and loyal community — with no current waitlist, and no plans to slow down.
Our Story
The story of Bowen Physiotherapy begins with more than a year of careful research, planning, and development. The reason was clear: there was an immediate, unmet, and significant need for physiotherapy services in this community.
Construction began in May 2019, and on 29 July 2019, Bowen Physiotherapy opened its doors. Almost immediately, Alex was working to full capacity — proving the sceptics wrong from day one.
Then came 2020 and COVID-19. Where others contracted, we continued. We adapted, served, and grew. From those early days, Bowen Physiotherapy has expanded into a multi-practitioner clinic with a full team of physiotherapists, an onsite exercise studio, NDIS services, home visits, workplace health services, and a weekly outreach clinic in Collinsville — bringing physiotherapy to a community that previously had none.
That growth is not accidental. It is the result of a community that trusted us — and a team that worked hard to deserve that trust, every day.

Our Community
Bowen Physiotherapy exists because this community needs it.
Our catchment zone covers approximately 13,000 people — around 7,000 within Bowen, 3,000 in the broader council area, and 3,000 in Collinsville. Bowen carries a Modified Monash Model classification of MMM 4, with a health workforce that is low relative to similar towns across Australia. With the national average of approximately one physiotherapist per 1,400 people, the unmet need here is substantial and ongoing.
Our community includes a significant ageing population, a diverse working population supported by agriculture, fishing, tourism, and mining, a growing NDIS and disability cohort, and a seasonal influx of travelling retirees — with an estimated 40,000 visitors passing through annually. Collinsville’s coal industry, exporting through Abbot Point just 10 minutes north of Bowen, adds further demand from the working population.
Preferred Providers
Bowen Physiotherapy is a preferred provider for the Queensland Country Care Navigation Unit and for Dr Peter McEwen, orthopaedic knee surgeon — supporting coordinated care, referral pathways, and continuity of care for patients requiring physiotherapy support.
